The value of regularly scheduled massage sessions
|
Often I see clients in my office that come in for a massage because they are experiencing pain. Most times clients report they have been in pain for months or years. When asked why they have not come in sooner they reply "I wasn't sure if massage could help, its more of a luxury than a necessity." When I hear this I know I need to educate the client as to the benefit of receiving massage therapy.
I work with clients to help alleviate their pain. I ask questions about what the client does during the course of a regular day, i.e. what type of job they do?, what are their hobbies? how do they sleep? With answers to these questions I can start to understand what clients may be doing during their daily activities that could be contributing to their pain. There are times when the client does not make the connection between their job or hobby and their pain. I help to make that connection. I develop a tailored massage session, make suggestions to modify or avoid certain activities, give exercises and stretches to do at home and set up a massage treatment plan for future sessions.
Once the pain has diminished I discuss the best way to maintain all of the gains from the massage sessions by scheduling monthly, bi-weekly or weekly sessions.
I've found that clients will assume that they are "fixed" so they do not see the benefit of coming in after the pain is gone but several weeks or months later they are back in the same situation with daily pain. Often this pattern is repeated for years.
When you come in for regularly scheduled massage sessions and do your home exercise/stretch program your body starts to let go of the incorrect holding patterns. When you are doing the same movement for years with little to no variation, the repetitive motion will contribute to breakdown of the muscles in that area. By coming in for regularly scheduled massage sessions the muscles are re-educated to resume their natural function and form thereby relieving pain and discomfort.
The bottom line is "Massage is not a luxury; it is a necessity for optimum health".
I look forward to working with you to help alleviate your pain and discomfort.
